Face Masks That Were Made for YOU

📸: ENFNTS TERRIBLES

When starting your skincare journey, face masks will be your new best friend.

Face masks started my love for skincare and I’m so grateful for them. One day I picked up a couple of different face masks and it was history from there. I bought the facemasks because I realized I had really dry/flakey skin and I had really bad texture in my skin. After using the different facemasks for the first time I was in shock

I. COULD. NOT. BELIEVE. HOW. MUCH. MY. SKIN. CHANGED. OVERNIGHT.

After using the facemasks for about a week, I would wake up in the morning with clear, soft, smooth, and hydrated skin. Overnight my skin had locked in the moisture that the facemasks had deposited into my skin. It was like magic 🪄

I can talk about how much I love facemasks all day, but I think it’s time I show you some of my favorites.

SHEET MASKS

Sheet Masks?

Besides sheet masks being the most convient mask option to choose from they are known for being soaked in serums or essences rich in hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and vitamins.

When applied to the skin, the mask forms a barrier that prevents evaporation, allowing the skin to absorb the moisture more effectively. This can help to hydrate and plump the skin, reducing dryness and improving overall skin texture.

My go-to mask for dryness and uneven skin texture (from acne scars) is the VITA-C Dark Spot Care Serum by Goodal. After I used it my dark spots from acne scars faded away after two weeks of use. I did two masks twice a week for my results!

CREAM MASKS

Cream Masks?

Cream masks are a close second behind sheet masks for me, just because it is a longer process for application and removal but the results can be a lot more beneficial than sheet masks in the long run.

Various cream masks provide deep cleansing action to help minimize the appearance of pores, reduce blackheads and whiteheads, and promote clearer, smoother skin. Some cream masks contain exfoliating ingredients to gently slough away dead skin cells, revealing fresher, brighter skin underneath.

The best part of cream masks: Using a cream mask before applying other skincare products can help to enhance their absorption and effectiveness. By removing impurities and dead skin cells and prepping the skin, cream masks create a clean canvas for subsequent skincare products to penetrate more deeply into the skin 😍 …Cream masks are the perfect first step to creating a skincare routine so all your products can be absorbed easily.

If you are like me and deal with enlarged pores, the Beauty by Joseon Red Bean Refreshing Pore Mask is the perfect pore mask for you. The mask has a key ingredient which is red bean and it is popular due to its pore-tightening and exfoliating properties. The mask is formulated to help tighten and minimize the appearance of clogged pores, which can help to create a smoother and more refined skin texture.

I recommend using this product once a week, due to it being a very strong mask and you don’t want to dry out your pores completely. Go at your skins pace and it will show you what it needs, no question.

CLAY MASKS

Clay Masks?

I hate saying this is my third favorite type of face mask to use because that’s NOT true. My thoughts on clay masks are that we do not need them as often as other masks. Clay masks are very great for our skin when needed but overusing them can be detrimental to your natural oils, stripping your skin over time which can lead to more fine lines. Once every 2 weeks is my policy and that is what has worked best for my skin.

Okay back to the main point, clay masks are beneficial in so many ways. They help us draw out impurities, excess oil, dirt, and toxins from the skin's surface and pores. Clay masks work well with oily or combination skin types. By reducing oiliness, clay masks can help to minimize shine, refine the appearance of pores, and prevent the formation of blackheads and whiteheads. So they are needed in our skincare routine just not as much!

The best clay mask in my opinion would be the Innisfree Super Volanic Pore Clay Mask. I’ve tried a couple of different clay masks but this one is hard to top. The main ingredient is volcanic ash sourced from Jeju island. Volcanic ash is known for its powerful purifying and absorbent properties, making it effective at removing impurities, excess oil, and toxins from the skin's surface and pores.

My favorite attribute about the mask is its tightening effect on the skin as it dries, which can help to temporarily firm and tone the complexion. This can be especially beneficial for those with enlarged pores and who want to minimize the appearance of them.

After trying and reviewing so many skincare products, I’ve learned so much about my skin. I’ve learned to not be afraid of new things as long as my skin won't be irritated and can handle it. Starting off slow with new products is the best way because I know it can be nerve-racking adding to your skincare routine. Go at your own pace! That’s the best advice I can give you.
